Joining the Effort

The following write-up was received from the boston group that ordered most of the East Coast shippment. The other groups include Tikkun in Washington D.C. and individuals in NY State.

The larger orders are made available at a discount to groups that elect to donate directly to organizations of their choice. As a matter of strategy, Holy Land Olive Oil concentrates on selling the largest amount of olive oil with or without fund-raising. This was a point of disagreement in the discussion following the initial fund-raiser. So now, larger orders can be made to include funds raised and delivered by Holy Land Olive Oil, funds raised and handled by the group making the order, or, with no fund-raising at all.- ed.

"The Boston-area Palestinian olive oil committee is an ad hoc group of 5 Israel/Palestine peace activists from several different organizations. We came together after one of our members read about the olive oil project in an email posting from Jewish Voice for Peace in California and asked us to
join her in a similar project for our area. Our organizing process has involved only a few meetings in person and lots of emailing back and forth to determine such matters as: how much to order in our first round, how to arrange for payment, how to publicize the project so that we sell the oil we order, where to distribute the oil and so forth.

We decided to buy 55 cases of oil for our first order and are going to offer them through email lists of several organizations working for Palestinian/Israeli peace. We anticipate that the demand will be great, and because we dont want to disappoint anyone, we are limiting each buyer to two bottles. We are also asking purchasers to let us know whether they would like more oil so well know how much to order in the future.

We think this is a wonderful way to support Palestinian farmers as well as non-profit groups working on Israeli/Palestinian peace. We hope that activists in other cities will undertake such a project as well."
